Guidelines for Authors

The Emirates Journal for Engineering Research (EJER) publishes research from all fields of engineering and applied sciences. The final editing and formatting of all accepted papers is done by the editorial board to ensure the consistency of the format and the quality of the product. Authors are requested to observe the following.

Original contributions submitted for publications will be refereed and fall into one of the following categories:

a. Full length papers (maximum of 10,000 words or word equivalent).

b. Review articles.

c. Technical notes (maximum of 2,000 words or word equivalent).

Papers presented at technical conferences are acceptable for submission to the Journal provided that no more than an extended abstract was published by the conference, and the author must include a statement to that effect. Multiple submissions are not acceptable.

The manuscript should be submitted in three copies, double-spaced on one side of A4 paper. Electronic submission of the papers is encouraged.

Articles should be submitted in English, although some topics in Architecture may be accepted in Arabic with an English abstract.

SI Units should be used. Other units may be given in parenthesis.

All mathematics and special symbols must be typewritten and defined in the text when they first appear. If a list of symbols is needed, it should be arranged alphabetically under a nomenclature section.

In the case of joint authors, correspondences and proofs will be sent to the first named author, unless otherwise indicated.

It is preferable to prepare each contribution in the following order:

a. Title of the paper should not exceed 70 characters, unless necessary.

b. Author(s), full name, affiliation and address.

c. Abstract of not more than 200 words in both Arabic and English. Keywords should be included.

d. Text illustrations, figures and/or photographs should appear consecutively throughout the text.

e. Conclusions.

f. Acknowledgments, if any.

g. Nomenclature, if any.

h. References must be in the order they are cited in the text. They should be cited by bracketed numbers. Examples of the reference formats are given below.

i. Appendices, if any.

Author(s) must submit the following (for papers accepted for publication in EJER):

a. Revised copy of the manuscript. Also, the revised copy should be provided on a CD using Microsoft Word. Electronic submission of the final version of accepted papers is also encouraged.

b. A full set of revised versions of illustrations, figures and photographs (in addition to those included in the revised text). Illustrations and figures should be drawn or plotted in black ink or laser printed. Photographs should be clear, sharp, black and white prints on glossy paper. Digital color photos/figures will be used for the papers posted on the website and high resolution B&W versions will be used in the printed copies.

c. A list of captions for all illustrations, figures and/or photographs.

d. Revised copy of tables (in addition to those included in the revised text). Each table is typed on one side of A4 paper.

Technical notes should be submitted in a similar fashion. No abstract is needed.

Author(s) will receive 15 free reprints of the published papers in addition to a copy of the issue of the EJER in which the paper appears. There are no page charges. Additional reprints can be provided at a cost of $200 per 100 copies.
